Position Description

The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) seeks an Online Communications Manager. This individual will serve as the association's webmaster, and have responsibility for the day-to-day management and maintenance of the association's website, micro-sites, online databases, and social media presence. He or she will write and edit web, blog, and micro-blog content; as well as edit digital images, video, and audio. The Manager will take a lead role in the association's migration to a new CMS. The position reports to the Director of Communications.

NAICU serves as the unified voice of the nation's private nonprofit colleges and universities in shaping higher education policy, and is action-oriented in representing the interests of more than 1,000 members. NAICU is one of six major national higher education associations whose members are college and university presidents.

Qualifications


A four-year degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field; three to five years experience in web content management and design, development and management of social media channels, and maintenance of online databases; strong news and web writing and editing skills; and experience in digital image, video, and audio editing. Attention to detail is a must.

Candidates must have a strong background in technical aspects of web and digital communications functionality, and have proficiency in CMS and AMS/CRM; WordPress; basic HTML and CSS; web analytics; Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Vimeo, and YouTube; Adobe Creative Suite; and Microsoft Office. Experience managing CMS/AMS migration, and managing vendors and project timelines is desirable.

Candidates must be self-motivated and comfortable balancing competing deadlines, managing multiple and often shifting priorities, and working on a team. The ideal candidate will keep abreast of the latest web and online communication trends; and research, implement, and leverage, as appropriate, new and existing technologies to support the organization's mission.

Major Duties and Responsibilities


1. Take day-to-day responsibility for the coordination and maintenance of the association website and special purpose micro-sites.

2. Draft, edit, and post updated, new, and timely content related to developments in higher education policy, sector trends, and association initiatives to the association website, blog, and micro-sites that meet high standards of editorial quality, relevance, readability, and accuracy.

3. Maintain the U-CAN database, coordinating periodic updates and serving as the primary staff contact for questions and comments from participating institutions. Help manage and maintain the association's online member database.

4. Translate NAICU print publications into content for online media.

5. Help maintain the association Twitter accounts, Facebook pages, LinkedIn presence, RSS feeds, and other electronic communications channels, through regular posting of timely content.

6. Develop, manage, and edit content for association Vimeo channel.

7. Monitor and evaluate website, listserve, and other new-media usage by members and other constituencies of particular interest to NAICU.

8. Track and report on trends in NAICU's online prominence. Make recommendations on best practices for web writing and editing to enhance search engine optimization, and implement, as necessary.

9. Identify opportunities to leverage emerging and established web trends to inform and motivate key constituencies. Help develop and maintain new tools and channels, as agreed upon with the Director of Communications.

10. Serve as a staff contact with NAICU's web developer, Internet service provider, and contract web designers.

11. Perform other duties as assigned.
