Alumnus becomes new Wheaton College president
August 27, 2010
More than 25 years ago, Philip Ryken entered Wheaton College as a freshman. Now he's come home again as the college's eighth president. The new president is the son of Wheaton College English professor Leland Ryken, who has been on Wheaton's faculty for 42 years. The author of more than 30 books about Christianity and the Bible, Ryken was on the pastoral staff of historic Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia beginning in 1995. In 2000, he became the church's senior pastor. But he said that he always hoped to return to Wheaton.
