Important NAICU Member Survey on Economic Impact
May 31, 2009
It has now been two weeks since we launched NAICU's on-line economic recession impact survey. So far, about 140 institutions have logged on to participate. However, we hope to add many more participants in the two weeks left before the survey closes on June 12.
Each of the three earlier NAICU surveys on various aspects of the economic recession on private colleges and universities have proven valuable - both to inform policymakers in Washington and to educate the public, through the media, about the economic pressures on these institutions. The survey results directly contributed to recent increases in student aid over the next two academic years, as well as legislated increases in student loan liquidity.
The current survey explores how private colleges' fall enrollment is shaping up, and institutions' perceived effectiveness of federal interventions to date.
NAICU recognizes the difficulty of completing an additional survey at the end of the academic year. However, a high response rate is critical if the results are to credibly represent the situation on private college campuses nationally. Results will only be reported in the aggregate.
