Middlebury College loses millions
November 13, 2008
Between June 30, 2007, and Sept. 30 of this year, college chief financial officer Patrick Norton said, the endowment dropped from $936 million to $801 million, losing 11 percent for the calendar year, or 6.8 percent for the fiscal year. Middlebury is hardly alone. Published reports have suggested university and college endowments may see 30 percent losses this year. Bennington College had a $12.5 million endowment in July that has since dropped 28 percent.
