Monday, February 3

8:30 - 8:45 a.m.

Welcome and Overview

8:45 - 9:45 a.m.

Telling Your Story

Every college campus is unique, complex, and incredibly diverse.  Telling the story of your institution – to prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, parents, policy makers, community and business leaders, the media, and others – in an environment where there are so many different ways to communicate (or miscommunicate) with your audiences requires a strong message that resonates and effectively communicates about your institution.  Whether it’s a Tweet, Facebook or Instagram post, letter to the campus community, presentation to your board of trustees, conversation with an elected official, or interview with a reporter, effective storytelling will ensure the message you want to get across is heard.
SPEAKER:
Brian C. Rosenberg, Ph.D., President, Macalester College (MN)

9:45 - 10:45 a.m.

Communicating in Turbulent Times

In an age of transparency in higher education, and at a time when college leaders are facing many issues affecting the future of their campuses, how do campus leaders have the difficult conversations  needed to addresses these concerns without unduly setting off alarms and raising fears or anxieties?
SPEAKER:
Laura Casamento, Ed.D., President, Utica College (NY)

10:45 - 11:45 a.m.

Building University-Community Partnerships

Over the past three decades, American colleges and universities have fostered a surge in activities around their civic and social purposes.  What began as a revival of civic purpose and public service has evolved into a burgeoning movement of university-community partnerships nationwide. Two NAICU member presidents will outline the steps their institutions have taken to build model university-community partnerships.
MODERATOR:
Wim Wiewel, Ph.D., President, Lewis & Clark College (OR)
