Dept. Ed. Looking for Promising College Completion Strategies

September 26, 2012

The Department of Education has reopened a request for information on promising and practical strategies to increase postsecondary success.  The first request was made in January 2012 and resulted in 75 distinct organizations contributing to the effort.  Of those contributing, only 12 were independent institutions, while 11 were organizations, 2 were for-profit colleges and the balance were from the public sector.

The Department’s efforts parallel NAICU’s efforts in its Building Blocks to 2020 effort.  The Building Blocks initiative has collected more than 700 promising practices that contribute to student access and completion at private, non-profit colleges.

NAICU strongly encourages members to participate in Department of Education effort, so that policy makers can better appreciate the ambitious and innovative efforts toward improving college completion that are already in place at independent colleges and universities.  The cut-off date for the second-round submissions is November 30.
