Department Offers Gainful Employment Webinars May 25, 26

NAICU Washington Update

May 17, 2011

False claims by the for-profit sector that the controversial Gainful Employment regulations only apply to their sector, have led many non-profit colleges to not fully focus on the credential-program requirements that go into effect July 1.

The fact is that all colleges offering credential programs of at least one year in length must have the required disclosures on their website by that date.  Also, the first report to the Department of Education on these programs is due October 1.  (Schools not required by their accrediting agency or their state to provide placement data do not have to disclose it until the Department comes up with a methodology for doing so.)

The Department has announced that it is offering a 90-minute webinar on the gainful employment disclosure and reporting requirements on Wednesday, May 25, at 1:30 p.m. ET (repeated May 26 at 11:00 a.m. ET). Advance registration is necessary. Register for the webinar via this link

The disclosure and reporting requirements are spelled out in the October 29, 2010 final regulations.  Additional information is provided in the Dear Colleague Letter and attachment of April 11, 2011.
