Students facing tough competition for campus jobs

Connecticut Post, Bridgeport

April 29, 2012

The amount of available work study dollars nationwide has been on the decline. In 2009, $1.4 billion was available between the federal aid and the required 25 percent contribution from the participating college or university for work study; 768,271 students got jobs. By 2011, the work-study pool had shrunk to an estimated $1.16 billion for 711,588 students who were able to get work. In 2012, 683,000 students are projected to benefit from work study, according to department officials.
