Lakeland College introduced Michael A. Grandillo, vice president for development and public affairs at Tiffin University in Ohio, as its next president Tuesday. Grandillo will succeed Stephen Gould, who was named Lakeland's president in 1998 and will retire at the end of May after serving the college for 42 years as a teacher and administrator, according to a news release.
Mount Ida College has turned to a familiar face in Boston's higher education community to be its next president. The school announced Wednesday that Barry Brown, provost, professor and former acting president of Suffolk University in Boston, has been named to the post effective July 1.
In light of U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to nominate Dartmouth College President Jim Kim for the World Bank presidency, the Board of Trustees is now tasked with selecting an interim president to lead the College in the event of Kim's departure and the undertaking of a search process for an 18th president. While Kim said in a campus-wide email last week that he would continue in his role as College president during the nomination process, his appointment as World Bank president is a virtual certainty.
Dr. Rick D. Niece, the third longest serving president in University of the Ozarks history, announced Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the 2012-2013 academic year. Niece, who was named the university's 24th president in 1997, will step down on June 30, 2013, after 16 years at the helm. The university said its board of trustees has formed a search committee to select Niece's successor, and hopes to have the finalists on campus by November and a new president chosen by January.
Westminster College in Salt Lake City has named the chancellor of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as the school's 17th president.School officials announced Tuesday that Brian Levin-Stankevich will take over when Michael Bassis retires in mid-July. Levin-Stankevich has served as the Wisconsin chancellor since 2006. He worked as interim president of Eastern Washington University before that. Bassis is retiring after 10 years at the helm.
WASHINGTON – The White House on Friday named Jim Yong Kim, the president of Dartmouth College and a global health expert, as its nominee to lead the World Bank.
Midway College President William B. Drake, Jr. is stepping down after 10 years as head of the private institution in Central Kentucky known for its women's only college. Drake announced his decision to the college's board of trustees Tuesday, commenting in a statement that he wants to move on after largely accomplishing the goals that board members set out when he took the job in 2002.
Hilary Pennington, who is stepping down this month as leader of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s postsecondary-success strategy, will be replaced on an interim basis by Allan C. Golston, president of the organization’s United States Program, a spokeswoman for the foundation said on Thursday.
Felice Nudelman, executive director of education for The New York Times Company, was named Monday as the next chancellor of Antioch University. She will lead a system of five geographically dispersed campuses and distance programs. Antioch College - the undergraduate residential institution - is now independent of the university system.
Helen F. Giles-Gee, president of Keene State College, N.H., becomes the first female leader of the science-oriented university in its 191-year history. She is also the university's first president of color, school officials said. Giles-Gee is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and formerly was provost of Rowan University, N.J. She will become the 22d president of the University of the Sciences on July 16, school officials said, replacing Philip P. Gerbino who retired last August after 16 years at the helm.
