Senator Kennedy Offers Student-Loan Bill to Ease Effects of Credit Crunch

College lobbyists welcomed the proposals, saying they would provide students with a safety net if lenders continued to abandon student lending. "This is exactly the type of proposal we need out there to give students and parents the assurances they need that the federal government is going to stand behind them," said Sarah A. Flanagan, vice president for government relations at the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
