NAICU Annual Meeting Speaker Cited as Highest Ranking Female Staffer in Congress

NAICU Washington Update

March 4, 2011

Roll Call, the daily newspaper of Capitol Hill, has said Speaker John Boehner's chief of legislative operations, may be the most influential woman working in Congress.  Jo-Marie St. Martin, was a featured speaker at the recent NAICU Annual Meeting, sharing with conference participants the Speaker's vision of what he hopes to accomplish during his tenure.

St. Martin is particularly well-suited to help shape the Speaker's education agenda.  She served on the House education committee from the 1980s until 2006, when she moved with Boehner to his leadership post of Majority Leader.  When speaking to NAICU Annual Meeting attendees, she displayed her solid knowledge of both the federal role in higher education and the importance of private, not-for-profit higher education.  During her talk, she also gave member presidents some great tips on how to approach their elected officials, and make the case for education.
