Department of Defense Announces Plans to Authorize Transfer of Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits

On April 28, the Department of Defense (DoD) released its proposed policy for permitting the transfer of Post 9/ll GI Bill benefits to dependents.  The law authorizes DoD to allow such transfers if the eligible service member has served at least six years in the Armed Forces and agrees to serve at least another four years.  Final regulations have not yet been published, but are expected soon.  Although subject to change, the proposed policy offers an indication of the approach DoD plans to take.  For additional information, see "DoD issues new GI Bill family transfer rules" (Air Force Times).
