Making College More Affordable: So Many Bad Ideas (and a Couple of Good Ones)

All Attendees Welcome

Washington Ballroom
The Biden Administration’s executive action on student debt has brought renewed debate on the value of higher education, particularly issues such as accountability, pricing, cost, student outcomes, and transparency. Economist Phillip Levine will offer a critical examination of the complex system of college pricing—how it works, how it fails, and how fixing it can help both students and universities. Affordability issues are real, but price transparency is also part of the problem. The conversations around affordability and free tuition often miss a larger truth: that the opacity of the current college-financing system is a primary driver of inequities in education and society.

SPEAKER:
Phillip Levine, Ph.D.,
Katharine Coman and A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics, Wellesley College (MA) and author of "A Problem of Fit: How the Complexity of College Pricing Hurts Students — and Universities,”
