The activism of today’s students has been energized by a confluence of factors, including protests over police violence, broader fights for racial justice and transgender rights, and the emboldening of far-right interests in the wake of Donald J. Trump’s election. And all of that is amplified by social media in a way that the protests of the 1960s weren’t.
