Inside the Spending Deal That Will Fund the Education Department

September 14, 2018

House and Senate spending leaders reached a deal Thursday that includes a funding increase for the Education Department.  The package includes a boost for education funding — an increase even slightly higher than what appropriators in either chamber had proposed.  The maximum Pell Grant would rise to $6,195 under the bill. That would be a $100 increase from the current maximum award of $6,095 and mark the second year in a row that Congress has increased funding for the program. The deal also includes a $70 million increase for career and technical education programs, which are now funded at $1.3 billion.
