At least 10 new lawmakers steeped in the education world have been sworn in, part of the new Democratic majority in the House. They include former teachers, professors and university leaders, as well as former leaders of education nonprofits and even one National Teacher of the Year.  They include some big names, such as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (a former education director at National Hispanic Institute), Ilhan Omar (who worked at both the University of Minnesota and the state’s Education Department) and Donna Shalala (who ran multiple universities before she led the Clinton Foundation).
