Higher Education to Receive $23 Billion in New Pandemic Relief

Higher education would receive another $23 billion in relief aid as part of the $900 billion coronavirus-relief package, expected to be passed by Congress today.  The funds may be a down payment on an even larger financial packaged expected to be proposed by the incoming Biden Administration in the coming months.

The new relief funds represent a small share of the $120 billion associations representing colleges and universities, including NAICU, had requested.  Similar to the CARES Act funding approved last Spring, half of the new funds may be required to be spent on aid to struggling students, with some additional flexibility for some portions of the student funds.
