It’s Time for Me to Go

Janet Dudley-Eshbach, president of Salisbury University (MD), writes: When is it time to go? When has a college presidency run its course? Serving in such a role is a privilege, and I’ve always wanted to be sure not to overstay the period in which I can be most productive. Some people have told me, "You’ll know when it’s time" — and it turns out they were right. I believe that change is necessary for growth: change at the institution and change in the person at the helm. Fresh energy and new perspectives usually can propel an organization to the next level.
