Higher Education Groups Come Together to Support ‘Dreamers’

October 16, 2017

Immigration advocacy groups that support Dreamers and DACA registrants have organized a series of activities throughout October urging Congress to find a solution for undocumented immigrants that entered the United States as children and wish to stay here to work, attend college, or serve in the military.

The week of October 16 has been designated as higher education week.  Led by the American Council on Education, several higher education associations, including NAICU, have assembled a toolkit and additional resources to help interested campuses that wish to participate in national advocacy events or hold campus discussions during higher education week.  There are nearly 800,000 DACA recipients who are currently working, attending college, or serving in the military.

ACE is also inviting colleges and universities to join a community letter urging Congress to follow the request of President Trump to find a bipartisan solution for individuals enrolled in the DACA program. Institutions will be listed individually by institution name.  If interested, please sign onto the letter by 12:00 noon EDT on October 18.

In addition to higher education, there are weeks devoted to K-12 education, business, and technology.
