Associations Lead National Voter Registration Effort

August 08, 2018

Your Vote Your Voice logoYour Vote, Your Voice is the centerpiece of the National Campus Voter Registration Project’s 2018 campaign to encourage campuses across the nation to engage in voter education, registration, and get-out-the-vote activities during this important mid-term election cycle.

Co-chaired by NAICU President David L. Warren, the campaign has been supported by the member associations of the Washington Higher Education Secretariat since 1996.

The Your Vote, Your Voice website contains a host of resources designed to help campuses meet the federal voter registration mandate, including a link to the League of Women Voter’s registration site, state-by-state voter registration deadlines, downloadable posters, and the popular National Campus Voter Registration Project Organizing Handbook.

Voter education and registration activities historically have been important undertakings of the nation’s colleges and universities. Additionally, since the 2000 presidential election, postsecondary institutions have been required by federal law to make a good-faith effort to distribute voter registration forms to all of their on-campus degree or certificate-seeking students. This requirement may now be met by providing access to the forms electronically through an email message devoted exclusively to voter registration.

NAICU hopes member campuses find the site useful and will report their voter education, registration, and get-out-the-vote activities by email to vote@naicu.edu.
