FEMA Extends COVID-19 Emergency Funding through Year’s End

August 19, 2021

The Biden Administration ordered FEMA to extend full funding for COVID-19 Emergency Costs until December 31, 2021. These funds allow entities, including colleges and universities, to be reimbursed for eligible emergency protective measures such as disinfecting of eligible public facilities and purchase and distribution of personal protective equipment. However, FEMA assistance cannot duplicate assistance provided by other federal agencies.  FEMA has produced a Fact Sheet (link) listing examples of protective measures.

The decision on who is reimbursed is at the direction of your local public health offices, so not all institutions will have equal access to the funds.

President Biden initially directed FEMA to increase the federal share from 75% to 100% of eligible emergency protective expenses in February. The increased reimbursements were to run retroactively from January 21, 2021 until the end of September 2021.

As always reach out to your local FEMA or public health office for additional information on steps to take in order to be reimbursed.
