AANAPISI and HSI Grant Programs Accepting Applications for New Awards

April 07, 2022

The Department of Education issued notices inviting applications for two separate grant awards for colleges and universities designated as Minority-Serving Institutions.

The first was a notice inviting applications for new awards for the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs). This program provides 5-year grants to eligible institutions of higher education to enable them to improve and expand their capacity to serve Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander students. Institutions are able to use these grants to plan, develop, or implement activities that strengthen the institution’s services leading to student success.

The second notice invited applications for new awards for the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) program, which provides grants to assist these institutions with expanding educational opportunities for, and improving the academic attainment of, Hispanic students.

Both applications are due June 6, 2022.

The AANAPISI and DHSI applications include the following two competitive preference priorities aimed at providing comprehensive student supports:
  1. Meeting student social, emotional, and academic needs; and
  2. Increasing postsecondary education access, affordability, completion, and post-enrollment success.
The Department is expected to make a total of 12 awards, with a maximum award of $400,000 a year, for the AANAPISI program and a total of 79 awards, with a maximum award of $600,000 a year, for the HSI program.
