Grants for Language Resource Centers Available

February 25, 2022

Institutions or consortia of institutions seeking to improve the capacity for teaching and learning foreign languages have been invited by the Department of Education to apply for FY 2022 awards for the Language Resource Center Program (LRC). The Education Department expects to award 16 grants of $130,000 to $197,000, for a total of $2.7 million.  Deadline for applications is April 25, 2022.

The absolute priority for this funding opportunity is for applications that focus on the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages, except French, German or Spanish.  The grant notice cites a recent Modern Language Association finding that there is a need to expand the knowledge of “Less Commonly Taught Languages” (LCTL) to better educate Americans for the global economy.

The competitive priority for this grant is for the inclusion of community colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), or Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) to promote equity in student access to foreign language teaching and learning. Private, nonprofit colleges are eligible in all of these categories.

To help applicants, the Education Department is holding a pre-application webinar with details available on the LRC Applicant Information website
