What Steps Can Colleges Take to Encourage Student Voting?

Colleges can encourage their students to vote in upcoming elections by building coalitions, setting goals for democratic engagement and providing voter registration information on campus, according to a report released Wednesday. The recommendations come from Voter Friendly Campus, an initiative to help colleges bring together their employees and students to boost electoral engagement. This year, the group designated 262 colleges as Voter Friendly Campuses, with 71 institutions joining the program for the first time. The report calls out several challenges colleges may encounter, including new restrictive election laws and a belief among some students that their votes don’t matter.
