States Bristle at Cardona Plea to Push Aid Deadlines

The rocky rollout of a new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) had already forced almost a quarter of the nation’s states to bump back their local scholarship application deadlinesLast Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona urged them to move the goal post once again. Not only did the secretary’s letter suggest state governors should push back any aid deadlines currently listed before or through the end of May, it also encouraged them to ensure their legislature properly budgets for potential increases in state grant aid that may be needed based on changes in Pell Grant eligibility.
