Limits On Masks, Tents and Noise: Some Campuses Tighten Protest Rules

At the University of Connecticut, camping is not allowed. At the University of California, there’s a ban on masks worn to intimidate others or hide one’s identity. And at Indiana University, protesters must stay 25 feet away from the entrance to school buildings. The heated protests related to the Israel-Gaza war that erupted last school year on campuses across the country caught many administrators by surprise. So some schools spent all summer evaluating their guidelines and rolled out new rules, clarified existing ones and warned of tougher enforcement this fall.
