Area Colleges Teamed Up on Renewable Energy Certificates

After saving up renewable energy certificates for two years, Lynchburg College sold them this summer, bringing in about $340,000 for environmental and energy-use reduction projects on campus.  Lynchburg, Randolph, and Sweet Briar colleges joined with Emory & Henry College and Hollins University in 2014 for an unprecedented partnership that involved sponsoring the production of electricity from landfill gas. Lynchburg College pays for the production of enough electricity from landfill gas to power its main campus.
