Bard Gets $1M to Create Small Hydropower Projects

When Bard College took ownership of the Montgomery Place estate in January, it got more than just a historic home, trails and gorgeous scenery.  It also got a couple of old dams — and all the compliance responsibilities that come with them. But where some may have seen a new regulatory burden, others saw an opportunity to generate power, albeit on a small scale.  Out of that idea came a project that was one of three college projects to receive a $1 million grant through Gov. Andrew Cuomo's "Energy to Lead Competition."
