Our View: ‘We’re Going to Lose a Good One’

The Editorial Board writes:  Private colleges like St. Scholastica exist to “prepare students for careers. That's why government views higher education as an investment worthy of taxpayers' money. It's also why colleges and businesses need to stay in conversation, so that college courses and workforce needs are in alignment.”  College of St. Scholastica President Larry Goodwin spoke those words at his inauguration way back in October 1999. The value of private education for the public good remained a hallmark of his tenure, for 18 years and four months, the longest in St. Scholastica’s 104-year. The economies and the communities in Duluth, across Minnesota and beyond benefited from the focus. And as Goodwin leaves office today for retirement, we all can extend our appreciation.
