Sacred Heart Made Right Call By Not Shutting Out Trump

Rose, professor and chairman of the Department of Government, Politics and Global Studies at Sacred Heart University (CT), writes:  Even blistering heat and torrid humidity weren't enough to diminish or rein in an enthusiastic crowd of 5,000 ticket holders waiting to hear Donald J. Trump on Aug. 13. Although our university clearly stated it was not endorsing Trump and that he was merely renting our venue for his rally, negative reaction continued unabated. Some felt Trump should not be allowed on campus because his views are controversial and run counter to the values of the university's Catholic mission (which isn't true).But of greater concern to me, as a constitutional scholar, was the effort to block Trump's appearance on campus. These efforts were an egregious and disturbing assault on the First Amendment.
