How to Bring a College Back to Life

On July 2, 2015, Phillip C. Stone loaded his minivan for the 90-minute drive from his home in Harrisonburg, Va., to Sweet Briar College. He took inventory.  He had a garment bag and a suitcase full of white shirts.  He had the trust of a Board of Directors he had not met, but which had elected him president of Sweet Briar earlier that evening, over the phone.  He had an office waiting for him on campus, but he did not know how to find it.
