Hamilton College, Others Enrolling More Low-Income Students

Colleges and students benefit when programs help academically talented students from lower-income families attend competitive universities, colleges and advocates say.  Hamilton College (NY) recently decided to enroll more low-income students. It joined The American Talent Initiative — which is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies and led by Ithaka S+R and the Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program — an alliance of colleges with graduation rates of at least 70 percent over six years and a goal of increasing enrollment among high-achieving, lower-income students by 50,000 by 2025.  So far, 100 of the 290 eligible colleges have joined.
