As Colleges’ Finances Get Shakier, What Lessons Does This ‘Sorta’ Merger Offer?

It was big news in Connecticut last week when several colleges came together to announce a plan to keep the financially ailing University of Bridgeport going. For now, the deal ensures continuity for the institution's 4,500 students and 300 faculty and staff members. With so many other colleges now in financial peril, several lessons of this save — a collaborative effort led by Goodwin University and two other colleges in the state — deserve attention.
