Top House Republicans Investigating Foreign Gifts to Colleges
Federal investigations into foreign gifts continue to impact colleges and universities. Earlier this week, the Ranking Minority leaders of three House Committees – Education, Oversight, and Judiciary – sent a letter to six colleges and universities requesting five years’ worth of information on foreign gifts the institutions received, specifically gifts from China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Russia.
Harvard University, the University of Chicago, the University of Delaware, New York University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University were given a week to submit all documents and all information regarding contracts and agreements with each of these countries dating back to 2015.
This request comes on the heels of the Department of Education launching its updated foreign gift reporting portal, and continuous scrutiny of foreign influence on campuses from Congress and the Trump Administration.
