Student Aid Alliance Hosts Congressional Briefing

The Student Aid Alliance (SAA), a coalition of 40 organizations that advocates for increased funding for the federal student aid programs, held a briefing to inform congressional staff about the impact proposed cuts to federal funding would have on higher education, students, and families.

More than 125 congressional staff attended the briefing, which included a panel discussion moderated by Inside Higher Ed News Editor Katherine Knott. Panelists included a financial aid administrator from Blue Ridge Community College, a postdoctoral fellow from Johns Hopkins University, a TRIO director from George Mason University, and a financial aid administrator from Purdue University.

Panelists shared their personal stories about the importance of the federal student aid programs, and SAA representatives encouraged lawmakers to reject proposed funding cuts and instead support the continued bipartisan funding for the programs.

NAICU is a founding member of the Student Aid Alliance, which was established in 1994.
