Haudenosaunee Promise Scholarship Program/Native Student Program

Syracuse University (NY)

The Haudenosaunee Promise Scholarship Program seeks to make education at Syracuse University available to admitted, qualified, first-year, and transfer American Indian students who are current citizens of one of the six Haudenosaunee nations: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca or Tuscarora. Qualified students receive financial assistance equal to the cost of tuition, housing and meals (on-campus), and mandatory fees for each year of full-time undergraduate study.

Additionally, the Native Student Program supports Native students in their transition to college by providing them with the necessary engagement for growth and success beyond the walls of college through faculty, staff, and peer interaction. Students gather weekly to attend workshops and gain strategic information that will promote their academic success, including academic counseling. The program provides on-going opportunities to attend conferences and to remain connected to their people and their history, and the direct connections of staff members to the Onondaga Nation allow students access and a connection to local Native people and events.
