Updates to NAICU’s 2018 Annual Meeting Program

Two nationally-known speakers have been added to the program for NAICU’s 2018 Annual Meeting and Advocacy Day.  Also, details of the 2nd Annual Congressional Independent Colleges Caucus reception have been announced. 

Keynote Speakers Added
  • Monday, February 5 (2:30-3:30): Author and political scientist Norman J. Ornstein, Ph.D., a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), will discuss the nation’s political environment in the Trump era.  At AEI, Ornstein studies politics, elections, and the U.S. Congress, and is co-author of the book ONE NATION AFTER TUMP: A Guide for the Perplexed, the Disillusioned, the Desperate, and the Not-Yet Deported, with E. J. Dionne and Thomas E. Mann.
  • Monday, February 5 (3:30-4:30): Northeastern University President Joseph E. Aoun, Ph.D., will discuss the framework for a new discipline, humanics, which builds on humanity’s innate strengths and prepares students to compete in a labor market in which smart machines work alongside human professionals.  A leader in higher education policy, and an internationally renowned scholar in linguistics, Aoun is the author of the book Robot-Proof: Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Congressional Independent Colleges Caucus

The 2nd Annual Congressional Independent Colleges Caucus reception will take place on February 6, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Kennedy Caucus Room (SR-325) of the United States Senate.
The inaugural reception featured visits by more than two dozen elected officials, including co-chairs Representatives Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Mike Capuano (D-MA).

The NAICU Annual Meeting and Advocacy Day is the largest policy-focused meeting of private, nonprofit college and universities held in Washington, DC.  The meeting includes the Government Relations Academy on Feb. 4; the Public Relations Academy on Feb. 5, and the Advocacy Day on Feb. 6.  The two academies provide an opportunity for member presidents and senior staff to explore key issues in the government affairs and public affairs environments, while Advocacy Day offers participants the opportunity to carry key messages to their elected officials on Capitol Hill.  Registration is now open.
