‘It Was Like a Crusade for Me’—How This Attorney Became One of 96 Borrowers to Have Her Student Loans Forgiven

Theoretically, borrowers hoping to have their student loans discharged under the government’s loan forgiveness program for public servants need a few things: the right type of loan in the right repayment program, the right type of job, and at least 10 years of payments on their debt.  But to actually have their loans wiped away successfully may require more from borrowers than meeting those basic eligibility requirements. They need the persistence to make dozens of phone calls, the diligence to keep copious notes and, perhaps, a law degree. At least that’s the lesson from the story of Anne Tamar-Mattis.
