Welch, president of University of Charleston (WV), writes: Taken collectively, the eight private colleges in West Virginia are the third largest higher education nonprofit in the state, behind West Virginia University and Marshall University. They employ 2,270 individuals and have a combined operating budget of $200 million. That means an economic impact in West Virginia of about $425 million.
